An essential AIR application for serious guitarists
Posted by Dennis on Mar 4, 2008 in AIR • 18 commentsI just finished the new version of my guitar scales application. When AIR was still Apollo I created a first rough version with a standard Flex look. Now that AIR 1.0 has been released it was time to do it properly.

This application lets you pick a scale and draws it on a virtual fretboard. You can change the number of strings & frets, the tuning, the visible intervals, pick scale chords and lots more. Give it a try!

I guess this could simply be transformed into piano key’s? Would also be very nice!
I do like your guitar scales.V2
You said that we can make suggestions and comments.
Well here is a request…please can you add the ability of making your own scales, with your own chords. Not the chords built on / off the roots of scale, but, based on what ever the user wants.-as in-whatever position and inversion and how many frets…
I hope that sounds like a reasonable request / suggestion. I know that I can put that to good use. Well that is it
Thank you…
Sincerely
Jonathan Kerness
Dennis,
I saw that you are using the CubeRotate Effect from Alex Uhlman (http://weblogs.macromedia.com/auhlmann/archives/2007/03/distortion_effe.cfm) at http://weblogs.macromedia.com/auhlmann/archives/2007/03/distortion_effe.cfm.
I am trying to use it to, but I need an example. Do you mind sharing with me how to use the effect?
Thanks,
Gilbert
Looking great, going tesdrive…
I’m having problems with the app. It seems to interpret all interface clicks as if they were instructions to drag the interface around the screen. For example, if I click on the pop up to change key, sometimes it works, but usually, the interface relocates on screen as if I had just dragged it to a new location.
I’m on a Mac and wonder if this is a problem with the AIR runtime or some quirk due to the application being developed on a windows machine.
Thank you very much for this handy application. It looks very good and works perfectly. I’m really looking forward for the next version and I’m very excited which new features you will implement.
Like Meaghan stated in here comment we had problems too with the app — and a friend said that we should ask the guys at willitblend.com to put it in their blender
[like this iphone: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qg1ckCkm8YI, but then we got it to work! Thanks!
is this PC only? Shouldnt a java/xml/javascript program run anywhere?
What are the requirements to run on a Mac?
I launch the ap and OS 10.4.11 tells me it is not a music file.
Hi,
To run this application you need to have the AIR runtime installed. You can download it @ Adobe : http://www.adobe.com/products/air/
Cheers,
Dennis
Just wanted to thank you for this app. It’s so well made, and I was surprised to find it included such a full set of scales — and the 3D effect is pretty nifty, too.
Hi There, love the app, one small request…………left handed option? thanks!

Dennis - I saw your example on Alex Uhlmman’s Adobe blog and I love it. As a guitarist - and as a developer. I am attempting to create an orgchart application that utilizes the flipping functionality - any chance you could share some tips/tricks in getting Alex’s library to work in Flex 3?
Thanks Much.
tom
firstly thanks.. and what libraries do we need to be able to use it.. also is there any chance to combine this application with some c# code?
This’s great!
This is so hot spot applications. Fantastic!
Report bugs; (Shift) + (Enter) → → context menus to maximize center to monitor the application in → fixed in position to move disabled… not affect the basic operation. I Win Vista [32bit] use.
If shown to increase the size, I want to be reduced.
Thank you.
hi, you said the application is for free.
Is it an open source application ?
If it is, i would like to add more functions to it, as i am an intermediate guitar player and an software developer.
Kindly let me know whether i can develop it further….
